Basement Window Replacement & Installation Across the GTA
Cold, foggy, damp or painted shut? We replace tired basement windows with warm, secure, easy-opening vinyl units — hopper, slider, awning, casement and code-compliant egress. Own crews, honest local pricing, serving the GTA north to Barrie.
Warmer, Drier, Safer Basements
Old Basement Windows Are Costing You More Than You Think
Those small windows at the bottom of your foundation are easy to ignore — until they start causing problems. Original wood and steel basement windows are notorious for cold drafts, foggy condensation, damp musty air, rot and rust, and sashes that are painted or rusted shut. Because they sit at ground level, they are also one of the most common break-in points in a home.
Replacing them with modern, insulated vinyl windows is one of the highest-value upgrades you can make to a basement. You get a warmer, drier, healthier space, lower energy bills, better security, and — if you are finishing your basement — the code-compliant egress a legal bedroom requires.
At WindowFixers.ca we both supply and install every basement window with our own trained crews, from the free in-home measurement to the final cleanup. Serving the Greater Toronto Area north to Barrie.
Choose the Right Style
Types of Basement Windows We Install
Every basement opening is different. Here are the window styles that work best below grade — we will recommend the ideal fit for each of your openings during your free measurement.
Hopper Windows
The most common basement window. Hinged at the bottom, they tilt inward from the top to let stale air out while keeping rain and debris from blowing in — ideal for shallow openings near grade.

Sashes glide side-to-side, so they need no swing clearance — perfect for wide, short basement openings and finished rooms where a projecting sash would be in the way.

Hinged at the top and cranking outward, awnings can stay open for ventilation even during light rain — a great above-grade basement choice for steady, weather-protected airflow.

Crank-out casements seal tight against the frame for the best energy efficiency and can be sized to double as an egress exit in a finished walk-out or larger basement opening.

No moving parts means maximum daylight and the tightest possible seal. A smart pick for basement openings where you want light and views but do not need ventilation.

A classic look for above-grade or walk-out basements. Sashes slide vertically and tilt in for easy cleaning, blending with the hung windows on the rest of your home.

Common basement window sizes run from roughly 30"–36" wide by 12"–24" tall, but older GTA homes are full of non-standard openings — and that is exactly where stock, big-box windows fail.
Because we custom-build every window to your exact opening, there are no awkward gaps, spacers or fillers — even if your current window is an unusual size or shape. Odd openings are our everyday.

Do You Need an Egress Window?
If you are finishing your basement to add a legal bedroom, the Ontario Building Code requires that room to have an egress window — an opening large enough to climb out of in an emergency (and for a firefighter to climb in). Most standard basement windows are too small to qualify.
We install code-compliant egress windows and window wells, including enlarging or cutting the foundation opening where needed. During your free visit we will tell you plainly whether your project needs egress and exactly what is involved — no upselling.
What to Expect
Our Basement Window Installation Process
A clear, four-step process so you always know exactly what happens next — from your first measurement to the final walk-through.
Free In-Home Measurement
We measure every basement opening precisely — including tight, below-grade and window-well frames — review your style, glass and security options, and give you an upfront, all-in written price.
Careful Removal
We remove your old wood, steel or rotted units one opening at a time, clean out crumbling mortar or framing, and prepare a solid, square opening for the new window.
Airtight Install & Seal
Your new vinyl window is set level, fully insulated and sealed inside and out against air and water — the step that finally ends the drafts, condensation and damp for good.
Finish, Cleanup & Warranty
We finish the trim, haul away every old window and all debris, and back the job with the manufacturer warranty plus our own installation workmanship guarantee.

Security & Upgrades
More Comfort, Efficiency & Peace of Mind
Low-E Glass & Argon Fill
Double- or triple-pane Low-E glass with argon fill dramatically cuts heat loss and stops the interior condensation that fogs and rots old basement windows.
Security Bars & Locks
Ground-level windows are a common entry point. We offer multi-point locks and optional security bars or grilles that stay code-compliant on egress openings.
Moisture-Proof Vinyl Frames
Unlike wood or steel, vinyl (uPVC) frames never rot, rust or need painting — the ideal material for the damp, humid environment of a basement.
Colours & Finishes
Choose white, almond or a range of exterior colours to match your foundation and siding, with obscure or frosted glass options for basement bathroom privacy.
